APCTT, in cooperation with the Ministry
of Science and Technology and Bangladesh
Council of Scientific and Industrial
Research (BCSIR), organized a National
Workshop on Wastewater Treatment in
SMEs from February 1 to 4, 2000 in
Bangladesh. The objective of the workshop
was to improve the concept of waste
management and also to evolve the
technological, institutional and economic
guidelines involved in controlling
water pollution through the application
of appropriate and clean technologies
in three industrial sectors; Leather;
textile dyeing and pharmaceutical.
The four day workshop included sector
specific technical sessions attended
by academicians, consultants, engineers
and scientists.
The leather sector covered a number
of areas including clean processing,
quality control and waste treatment.
The textile sector covered water conservation
and industrial pollution by textile
dyeing industry.
The pharmaceutical sector covered
technologies adopted for wastewater
treatment in pharmaceutical and toiletries
industries specially manufacturing
the fine chemicals. The technical
sessions were followed by visits to
industries.
A panel of experts comprising the
representatives of various organizations
made suggestions and recommendation
based on the resolutions adopted at
the workshop.
