Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) and
Asian and Pacific Centre for Transfer
of Technology (APCTT) are jointly organizing
a Regional Seminar on E-Commerce from
11-14, December 2001 at Hotel Gateway,
Bangalore, India.
The Asia-Pacific region has a large
E-Commerce market with huge potential
for growth of E-Commerce. Rapid development
in the telecommunications sector,
accessibility of network, and exponential
rise in Internet applications have
brought more on-line business transactions
promoting E-Commerce. At the same
time the accelerated speed of on-line
transactions and high volume of trade
have strong potentials of widening
the digital divide. Some developing
countries in the region have taken
up important steps to promote E-Commerce
applications and to bridge the digital
divide. Yet, the developing countries
in the region are far behind the developed
countries in application and implementation
of E-Commerce. It is clear that in
order to promote E-Commerce, the strategies
for close partnership among SMEs,
private sectors and financial institutions
should be developed with the Government
initiatives and cooperation among
the concerned organizations/associations.
This year seminar will bring the
opportunity to catch up the global
scenario of E-Commerce development
and E-Commerce initiatives taken by
regional and international organizations.
APT member countries, ISPs, ASPs,
network operators, financial institutions,
software vendors and prominent international
organizations are expected to share
their E-Commerce related experience
in the seminar.
Speakers from the key IT firms are
also invited to give presentations
on E-Commerce related development.
The presentation and discussion during
seminar will focus on regional strategies
on E-Commerce development, facilitation
of application, implementation and
delivery for rural area.
In August, 2000, APT and APCTT had
successfully organized the Seminar

Region in New Delhi, India. The proceedings
