Technologies, Policies and Pathways for Carbon Capture, Utilization, Storage and Removal
Asia and the Pacific faces the challenge of accelerating industrial decarbonization while sustaining economic growth, competitiveness and socioeconomic development. The Economic and Social Survey of Asia and the Pacific 2026 highlights that progress towards decarbonization in the region continues to be constrained by financing gaps and infrastructure and technological bottlenecks.
The opportunity
Carbon management is becoming an important part of the transition
While renewable energy, energy efficiency and electrification will remain central, emissions from hard-to-abate sectors may require complementary approaches, including carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS), carbon dioxide removal and other forms of long-term carbon sequestration.
Wider deployment will depend not only on technological advances, but also on enabling policies, regulatory frameworks, financing mechanisms, shared infrastructure and viable business models.
The Asia-Pacific Tech Monitor invites contributions examining technological advances, policy developments, practical experiences and emerging pathways for carbon management across Asia and the Pacific.
